This expanded abstract, as well as the project from which it derives, seeks to analyze the journey of self-knowledge and reconstruction of female identity in Niketche: uma história de poligamia (2021), written by the Mozambican author Paulina Chiziane (1955), particularly through the work’s protagonist, Rami. For this purpose, the relationship between her and the other women around her — relatives, friends, and her husband’s lovers, her “rivals” — will be examined, as well as her reflections on herself, notably represented through her conversations in front of the mirror. The theoretical-critical framework will be Feminist Literary Criticism, especially through Susanna Funck (2016) and Thomas Bonnici (2009). Moreover, for the specific ethnoracial focus — Black author and characters — contributions from Black Feminism will be considered, mainly drawing on bell hooks (2019).
